Natural Science: Unit 5 "Matter and Forces"

FORCES AND MOTION

Forces can PUSH or PULL.

A force is a PUSH or a PULL. Forces make things move, there are many examples of forces and motion in the following song.

Take your notebook and SING!!

What type of FORCES are there?.

Remember there are CONTACT FORCES and NON CONTACT FORCES.

What is a magnet? How does magnetism forces work?

The following funny video can help us to understand this two questions.

Remember that the EARTH IS A GIANT MAGNET. What is GRAVITY?

Check this out!

Out of our planet, in the out space the Earth doesn´t attract or pull things.

Look how is life without gravity. Let´s connect to the ISS (International Space Station)

What is FRICTION?

When you push a ball on the floor, the ball moves for a while and then stops.

FRICTION is the FORCE that slows or stops things when they move on the floor.

Depends on the type of matter, we find more or less FRICTION.

Try this experiment at home using different types of matter.

In which one FRICTION is HIGHER or LOWER?

What is density?

In science class we study that DENSITY is a property of matter.

DENSITY depends on the MASS and the VOLUME of matter.

Why do things FLOAT or SINK?

The reason because things FLOAT or SINK is DENSITY

-Matters with a HIGHER (big) density will SINK

-Matters with a LOWER (small) density will FLOAT

Now try this video. It will sink or float... and why?

It will sink/float because (metal spoon, plastic spoon, wooden stick, metal coin) density is higher/lower than water density.

Did you try the colour tower at home?

Which liquid has got the HIGHEST density? Which one has got the LOWEST density?

HAVE FUN WITH SCIENCE!!
